Vardenafil online
Vardenafil is a PDE5 inhibitor used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It is taken by mouth. Vardenafil's indications and contraindications are the same as with other PDE5 inhibitors; it is closely related in function to sildenafil and tadalafil (Cialis).[2] The difference between the vardenafil molecule and sildenafil citrate is a nitrogen atom's position and the change of sildenafil's piperazine ring methyl group to an ethyl group. Tadalafil is structurally different from both sildenafil and vardenafil. Vardenafil's relatively short effective time is comparable to but somewhat longer than sildenafil's.
Medical uses
Vardenafil is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED).[3] Vardenafil is in a class of medications called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Vardenafil works by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. This increased blood flow can cause an erection.
Side effects
Common side effects include:
- headache
- flushing
- dizziness
- upset stomach
- stuffy or runny nose
Side effects are similar to those of other PDE5 inhibitors.
Interactions
Vardenafil should be taken 1 to 2 hours prior to sexual activity with or without food. Its effects are similar to those of other PDE5 inhibitors. Vardenafil does not decrease sexual desire or arousal and has no effect on ejaculation or orgasm.
Pharmacology
Vardenafil is a PDE5 inhibitor. Its pharmacologic effects are similar to those of other PDE5 inhibitors. Vardenafil inhibits PDE5, which is an enzyme that destroys cGMP. By inhibiting the destruction of cGMP by PDE5, these medications allow cGMP to build up in the penis. cGMP causes muscles in the corpora cavernosa of the penis to relax. When the muscles relax, more blood flows into the penis and fills the spaces in the penis. As the blood fills the spaces in the penis, the veins in the penis are compressed, restricting the blood flow out of the penis. More blood in the penis means an improved erection. An erection occurs when blood flow into the penis is increased while outflow is decreased.
History
Vardenafil was co-marketed by Bayer Pharmaceuticals, GlaxoSmithKline, and Schering-Plough under the trade name Levitra. As of 2005, the co-promotion rights of GSK on behalf of Schering-Plough for Levitra had been returned to Bayer in many markets outside the United States. In Italy, Bayer sells vardenafil as Levitra and GSK sells it as Vivanza. In the United States, GSK sells vardenafil as Levitra and Schering-Plough sells it as Vardenafil hydrochloride.
Society and culture
Generic versions of vardenafil are available in many countries. In the United Kingdom, vardenafil is available as Levitra over the counter. In other countries, vardenafil is available only with a doctor's prescription.
